Week #32 - Stop Sabotaging Yourself
Self-Sabotage, Corporate-Sabotage
June 20th, 2020
Pastor Wendi Wood
Continuing in the theme, Possessing the Land Today: How do we overcome self-sabotage individually, and corporately?
What is self-sabotage? It is the act of preventing or even destroying ourselves deliberately so that we do not achieve a goal or a success that we have set before us. (Not possessing the land just as the 1st generation of Israelites failed to do)
Job
Diet
Relationships
Friendships
Working Relationships
Family
Romantic/Marriages
Any promise that Yahweh has given us.
Deliberate-does it mean we are always aware of this? Do we recognize our patterns? In Numbers 13, were the Israelites intentionally setting out to sabotage the Promised Land? Where did they miss the mark? How were they deceived? Hebrews 3:7-10
Doubt
Discouraged each other
They did not hold fast to the promise given them
They hardened their hearts
Walked in fear
Ultimately disobeyed and rebelled
Why do we allow it?
We don’t believe we are worth it
It gets hard
We don’t see the results we were expecting soon enough and we lose heart
We just want to do it our way
We complain about the process that Yahweh has ordained for us
This usually leads to commiserating with others
We start to reason out the instruction that Yahweh has given us. (Genesis 3:1 “. . . Is it true that Elohim has said, ‘Do not eat of every tree of the garden?’”)
The enemy casted doubt
Caused her to question Yahweh’s plan
Genesis. 3:4 “And the nahash said to the woman, ‘You shall certainly not die.’”
Blatant rebellion
Justified the reasons behind it (saw it was good for food, pleasant, and desirable for wisdom-lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, boastful pride of life). 1 John 2:16
Genesis 3:7 Their eyes were opened, they knew they were naked, and they now had to cover themselves.
Numbers 14:1-4 The Israelites despair, complain, then doubt some more, and they talk about appointing a leader to take them back to Egypt. (they rebel and have to cover themselves)
How do we recognize when we are self-sabotaging?
We ignore sound counsel from those we once respected and held in high esteem, from those we trusted, from those we even love. Numbers. 14:7-10; when we walk in rebellion, we seek to shut up the voice of Yahweh’s Holy Spirit.
We want to go back to what we know and what is comfortable. Numbers.14:3
We start thinking about making alternative plans than what we originally set out to do. Numbers.14:4
The Ark of the Covenant and the Moses stayed in the camp, but those who rebelled left the camp. Numbers 14:44 Two witnesses: Spirit and Truth; we don’t have peace and we feel the loss of His presence.
What does self-sabotage have to do with the success of the Body of Messiah?
If we are the parts of the body, do we not contribute to the function of the body as a whole?
You might think that what I do in my home has nothing to do with anyone else.
Does your private, thought-life contribute to your actions and interactions with others? (It is no different than this.)
The fear, the doubt, the dissent began in the individual minds of each of the 10 spies and finally someone spoke it out loud.
From there, it spiraled. It affected the whole camp. It brought a plague on those who spoke the evil report.
It caused them to instigate more rebellion in the camp which led to further destruction.
On the converse, we have the ability to cause people to inherit the land too by our encouraging words and actions. Joshua 1-2
How do we succeed?
Believe instead of doubting
Encourage one another to prevent the hardening that comes from the deceivableness of sin Hebrews 3:13
Hold fast to the promise, the goal, the dream that Messiah has given us all the way from beginning to the end-if we are true partakers in Messiah, we will do this. Joshua 2:24
Do not harden our hearts-this is sin
Obey-otherwise we are walking in rebellion
Encourage each other
Recognize that Yahweh has already given us the victory; it is for us to trust Him& walk in it. Joshua 2 & 3
Reflection:
Did the Israelites just suddenly become fearful and self-sabotaging in this isolated incident?
Did they have a pattern of this?
How do you think this affected their children?
Didn’t Yahweh already give them the land? Numbers 13:2
Yahweh was merciful and wanted the next generation to go in. Numbers.14:31
Week #31 - Possess the Land... Now What?
Week #30 - Naso - Stand Up!
Numbers 4:21 - 7:89
June 6th, 2020
Pastor Curtis Taylor
Exodus 32:26 And Mosheh stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Who is for יהוה ?Come to me.” NASO!!
Why we should Stand UP & Know “WHY ARE WE BELIEVERS IN OUR FAITH”??
It’s called Apologetics?
Many are not familiar with the word “apologetics” and some wonder if it has anything to do with apologizing. It’s really quite the opposite. Apologetics is a defense of your beliefs in HIM! It explains WHY you believe!! It’s giving answers and reasons for what we believe.
Two things are essential for effective apologetics:
Knowledge of facts in our faith as well as an ability to present the facts.
An ability to give a defense when challenged.
Yeshua bore witness to HIS apologetic ministry.
My mission has been to: the perfecting of the set-apart ones, to the work of service to a building up of the body of the Messiah, Ephesians 4:12
We should fulfill the command given by Peter in 1 Peter 3:15. “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer * to every man that asks you a reason** of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
In this verse are two important words that define apologetics: answer and reason. Let’s now understand what Peter directed and why he used these two words. Then we’ll address why we should care about apologetics. The word answer* is a translation of the Greek word apologia, from which we get the word apologetics.
Strong’s Dictionary defines apologia as: Apologia; G627, ἀπολογία, Total KJV Occurrences: 8 , ap-ol-og-ee’-ah; from the same as G626; (used 11 times) a plea (“apology”):–answer (for self), clearing of self, defense.
So, from the word apologia, we learn that we are instructed to defend the Word of God.
Simply put, we are to stand firm, NASO, on the truths of the Bible & be ready to declare & defend God’s Word with facts & the Truth!!.
The second noteworthy word in 1 Peter 3:15 is reason**. We are told to give a reason for the hope we have in us. “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer [apologia] to every man that asks you a reason [logos] of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
“Reason” is the Greek word logos, which is also translated as “word.”
Strong’s Dictionary defines logos as: Logos; from G3004; something said or thought; by impl. a topic, also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive!
This definition tells us that reasoning (logos) is thoughtful study and mental evaluation of subject matter and discourses. This denotes sharing information (defined by Strong’s as tidings) by communication through speaking (defined: speech, talk, utterance, word), writing (defined: treatise) and/or showing (defined: show, work).
One more word of greatest significance in 1 Peter 3:15 is the word HOPE! We are to give answers and reasons for the hope that we have. No one defines this “hope” better than Paul when he says, “…Meshiach in you, the hope of glory.”
Naso: You are still standing, stand firm, steadfast, after all that has been set against you, You are HIS Anointed, Be Steadfast. Stand up!!! Naso!!!
We are called to be one, not to cause division, not to be the Accuser, not to have a Critical Spirit, but to Love and Encourage one another!!
Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one deceive you in any way, because the falling away is to come first, and the man of lawlessness1 is to be revealed, the son of destruction.
Is there a “falling away” going on right now?
This is a strong picture and prophecy that is happening NOW of the remnant being returned! It’s time to shout!
God chose you. God chose me. God loved you and me, and decided that we were worth saving. He sanctified us, saved us, called us, and gave us the glorious inheritance of Heaven!
2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Hold on to the truths of the Word of God. Hold on to the traditions of the gospel that taught you about Yeshua. Let no man deceive you. Don’t be fooled by every little wind of doctrine that may come by!
Galatians 5:1 What the Messiah has freed us for is freedom! Therefore, stand firm, and don't let yourselves be tied up again to a yoke of slavery.
Acts 26:16 But get up, and stand on your feet! I have appeared to you to appoint you to serve and bear witness to what you have already seen of me, and to what you will see when I appear to you in the future.
Joshua 7:10 ADONAI said to Y'hoshua, "Stand up! Why are you lying there face down?”
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Don't let anyone deceive you in any way.
1 John 3:7 Children, don't let anyone deceive you - it is the person that keeps on doing what is right who is righteous, just as God is righteous.
God will comfort you, he will give you a Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind and he will establish you on the Rock.
And that Rock is Yeshua haMeshiach....
Stay strong in the Lord, Bear Witness and Keep Watching!!
—Pastor Curtis
Three Questions:
How can we “STAND UP” MORE FOR OUR Faith??
Do we know how to “BEAR WITNESS” in Our Daily Life?
Can you explain your “BELIEF SYSTEM”??
Keep the Faith and Spread the Fire!
Are you progressing?
Are you overcoming?
Don't go through the same sins Year after Year, Stand up and take authority, You have the Power!
Say this:
“I am Overcoming!”
I am walking in a constant Self-Examination.
Forgiveness sets me Free! Mercy and Compassion is Messiah.
It is sometimes missed in the Messianic Movement.
It is all About Mashiach.
The Torah should point us to Messiah, Yeshua!
Revelation 17 tells us the enemy will search out and test those who have 2 criteria, not just one!
The understanding of Yah’s Commandments, Torah! …and…
The Testimony of the Lamb.
Which ones do you have??
We are being tested to Humble us and Prove what is IN our Hearts!
Out of the Abundance of our Hearts, comes Clean or Unclean. Tahor or Tamei L‘Chaim or Metzora. Life or Death.
Choose Life and Give Life
Keep the Faith and Spread the Fire… By Giving it Away!
