About the Weekly Torah Portions
The Torah, also known as The Books of Moses, consists of the first 5 books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These scriptures contain the foundational concepts in both Judaism and Christianity and, when studied along with other passages of scripture in the New and Old Testaments, we begin to understand the whole of scripture better and learn how to better walk out our lives with Yahweh (God) at the center. Many Christians are taught to believe the Old Testament teaching and instruction (often mistranslated as “the law”) has been done away with, but they don’t realize how much Jesus (Yeshua, Christ) and the Apostle’s writings directly quote and teach from the Torah and Prophets of the Old Testament.
Without the foundational concepts that other passages teach from, it is all too easy to read a given passage and come away with the wrong or incomplete understanding. We believe in teaching the whole Bible, building up from these foundational concepts to foster maturity in the Church body.
At Beit Lechem Ministries we follow a traditional schedule of reading through the Torah and studying its concepts each year. Each weekly portion of the Torah has a Hebrew name (also translated into English), and we provide a study guide to help draw out the deeper meanings. We reference related passages throughout the Bible to help increase your understanding.
For those wanting to dive deeper into their understanding of God and scripture, our study guides also cover the weekly Haftarah portion of the books of the major and minor prophets, as well as the New Testament passages related to the same topics.
